What the test shows
- Speed in words per minute (WPM): correctly typed characters divided by five, per minute. Spaces count.
- Accuracy: the share of correct keystrokes. A typo you fixed still counts as a miss — the test honestly sees every slip.
- Mistakes and slow pairs: which letters you mix up and which combinations slow you down. The trainer will serve those more often.
Is that fast?
Rough guides for English text — not norms, everyone is different:
| Speed | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| under 25 WPM | you look at the keys |
| 30–50 WPM | a confident user |
| 50–70 WPM | solid touch typing |
| over 80 WPM | very fast |
Seeing speed in characters per minute somewhere? Divide it by five to get WPM.
How to test fairly
- Look at the screen, not at the keys.
- Don’t chase speed at the cost of mistakes: accuracy under 95% usually means slow down.
- Take the test a few times — the first round is almost always the slowest.
